What to Expect

Step 1: Reach out!

Step 2: Setting up our First Session

Via email, phone, or text, we can set up a time to chat (or just email, if you prefer). This is free and usually takes less than 10 minutes. By the end of this call, you should have a pretty good idea whether you’d like to work with me. If you’d like to move forward, we can set up our initial session.

Step 3: Initial Session

This first session is really the opportunity for me to get to know you and try to understand what the issues are. It’s an easy, comfortable environment. After our first session, I review our conversation and, for the second session, I put together a plan based on what you’ve told me.

Step 4: Second Session

Your second session is when we’ll discuss what your therapy process will look like moving forward - how often we’ll meet, when we’ll meet, what we’ll focus on. We will constantly check-in and make sure we are on the same page with our process.

It’s a collaborative relationship, not me telling you what you should be doing. I give recommendations. I’m constantly checking in to make sure we’re on target and to make sure that you’re comfortable. If you prefer not to answer or not discuss something, that’s fine. The client controls the environment and what they want to speak about.

Step 5: Roll Up Your Sleeves!

We will work together to improve your situation to your satisfaction. From the first session, the process of getting to know you begins. Goals for therapy often come out over the first several sessions. I’ll start to learn more about the issues for which you’re seeking therapy, as well as a broader view of your life and history. As this picture becomes clearer, I am able to identify and use tools, techniques and therapeutic approaches designed to foster personal transformation and growth.

I am a generalist practitioner and use many interventions from a variety of approaches. These include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Adlerian techniques, Gestalt therapy, solution-focused therapy, and play or art therapy for children and adolescents. We will continuously evaluate your progress and make adjustments as needed.

You are free to end therapy whenever you feel ready.
