Grief & Loss
Whether we lose a family member, close friend, or pet, it hurts — and often it hurts deeply. We may feel a sense of loss, abandonment, anger, and sometimes guilt. Over time, we can experience many different emotions that are difficult to understand or manage. Often, we don’t feel like our normal selves, and the world may seem unfamiliar.
Common experiences with grief and loss include:
- Sadness, emptiness, or emotional pain
- Feelings of anger, guilt, or confusion
- Difficulty adjusting to daily life
- Feeling disconnected from others
- A sense of being “stuck” in the grieving process
Sometimes, with time, the hurt becomes more manageable and we are able to regroup and move forward while still holding on to meaningful memories. At other times, the pain can feel overwhelming. Society often expects us to “move on,” but grief does not always follow a clear timeline, and many people find themselves feeling stuck.
